THE CHALLENGES OF ENGLISH-TO-PERSIAN TRANSLATION OF CRITICALLY ACCLAIMED FILM AND TV SERIES LOGLINES

The Logline serves as the foundation and core of a screenplay. Screenwriters must condense the fundamental elements of a film’s narrative into 20 – 35 words, encompassing the hero, inciting incident, antagonistic force, goal, and risk involved. This study aims to analyze critically acclaimed film and TV series loglines that have been translated into Persian by the participants/college students from the universities of Mashhad. The practical analysis in the research study is based on Molina and Albir’s (2002) translation techniques. The results showed that the participants used 11 out of 18 translation techniques from Molina and Albir’s (2002) model. The participants employed various translation techniques, including reduction, adaptation, amplification, literal translation, modulation, and generalization. However, some issues were identified during the analysis, including failing to correctly translate verbs, additions, and omissions of some logline elements. These obtained results will benefit to journalists, cinema magazines, critics, and screenplay translators.
